Wait, we thought his name was Steve Kragthorpe, not Joe.

Spotted at the Louisville International Airport: This sign, an ad for Jewish Hospital. In the middle is Louisville basketball coach. On the left is football coach Steve Kragthorpe. On the right is, well, the “regular Joe” for the ad. Lookie:

We’re really not trying to pile on Steve. Heck, guy’s dug his own grave: Going 6-6 [...]

“Unforgettable” Woods now a head man

If not for Christian Laettner, Sean Woods might have the greatest highlight of the 1992 NCAA tournament. And possibly a national title.
Sixteen years ago in the East Regional Finals, Woods hit a running back shot to give Kentucky a 102-101 lead over Duke. Only 2.1 seconds remained. What could go wrong?
Um ….
Anyhow, life turned out [...]

Hell freezes over: Montgomery to Cal

ESPN’s Andy Katz is reporting former Stanford coach Mike Montgomery will be California’s next head coach. He’ll replace the fired Ben Braun.
In other news, Dick Cheney will run for Senate as a Democrat.
Going from one school is bad enough (for those on the east who don’t know, this is a pretty darn, fierce rivalry)  but [...]

TMC Podcast - Sunday, March 30

Cast: Galen Clavio, Scott Caulfield

Topic: IU basketball coaching search-o-rama. Scott and I break down the Tony Bennett situation, talk some Mike Montgomery, some Lon Kruger, and go through a bunch of other names (both realistic and unrealistic), before deciding that no one has a damn clue what’s going on with this situation.

Which brings us to our next point: Kids, don’t do crack!

We all dream. That’s what sports is about, right?
Unfortunately, our Indiana brethren have taken it a bit further.
You may have read Mike Decourcy’s piece in the Sporting News, one saying the IU “blue ribbon” search committee was interested in Louisville’s Rick Pitino, a coach the school has no prayer of prying from the bluegrass. And [...]

We’ve decided: The Mike Tirico show blows

All right, we tried. Really, we did. Despite our love for “The Dan Patrick show”, we listened, and listened, and listened to Mike Tirico, trying to be convinced.
And we’ve decided: It sucks.
The show is boring, what with Tirico’s giddy, inside-joking with Michele Tafoya, or his hob nobbing with Kirk Herbstreit, who, quite obviously, knows nothing [...]

So Kentucky’s Patrick Patterson is gone for the year? Could be worse.

It could be this …
I know: We’re mean bitches.

Crank that Louisville! Crank that Louisville!

Who said all University of Kentucky and University of Louisville fans are crazy, out of control, batsh*t nuts nutzoids? This kid, with the screen name LunchTime45, takes the “e” out of energy (yes, we realize that would be “nrgy”. Shaddup!).
Credit the Card Chronicle for finding this. Enjoy!

Time to fire Sampson … and Greenspan

Flash back to March 29th, 2006. I was a cub reporter at a Louisville TV station covering Indiana’s hiring Kelvin Sampson, and asked Indiana Athletic Director Rick Greenspan why he would hire a coach whose actions at Oklahoma could bring sanctions to IU (remember: Sampson made 577 [!] improper calls to recruits while at Oklahoma). [...]

Louisville’s Padgett cracks knee cap, 15-year career likely over

So it looks like David Padgett will end his college hoops career the with what hampered him much of it: A knee injury.
Louisville coach Rick Pitino announced Monday the senior will miss at least ten weeks after cracking his right knee cap in Sunday’s 84-53 win over Jackson State.
Translation? Padgett’s gone for the [...]
