“I wouldn’t take my shirt off … they said if I didn’t I’d be arrested”

We’d say this story is just a first-amendment issue, but it’s as much one of authorities figures being amazingly, amazingly stupid. You remember this picture:

That’s Josh Tucker of Louisville wearing his “Bring Back Bobby” shirt to Wednesday’s 68-66 Indiana loss to Wisconsin. You probably remember a security guard asked Josh to take off the shirt. [...]

H/T Blog: IU press conference at 3…no Sampson

According to the Bloomington Herald Times blog, IU president McRobbie will be addressing the media at 3…and it appears unlikely that Kelvin Sampson will be joining him.
So Sampson was originally going to appear? Now he’s not? Hmm.
Stay tuned.

Legal prudency? Or nerf balls for testicles?

Well, there were obviously some huge changes in between my post from earlier tonight and the present time.  My apologies for running with the story that Sampson would be suspended or fired today (Friday) — there was a lot of confirmation blood in the water, but it disappeared for some reason.
There are two questions that [...]

Quasi-confirmation: Sampson out as of tonight?

This is almost purely speculative, but I’ve had three separate people email me about it, and it was just mentioned on Indianapolis sports talk radio, so here goes…
What I’m hearing is that the powers that be (who were meeting most of this afternoon/evening, according to the Bloomington Herald-Times) have decided to either suspend Sampson indefinitely [...]

IU goes paranoid: Assembly Hall official asks fan to remove pro-Bob Knight shirt

Those of us who went to IU and covered sports know how controlling the school can be. So it should be no surprise when, at last night’s 68-66 loss to Wisconsin, this fan (who told The Bloomington Herald-Times his name was “Tucker”) was asked by an Assembly Hall official to change this shirt reading “Bring [...]

So what’s about to happen?

Three separate rumors now indicate that Sampson’s been unofficially canned, and will be taken out officially sometime on Friday.
I’m still unconvinced.
The presence of Rick Greenspan, the IU athletic director, in yesterday’s press conference and in the press release that IU put out yesterday, indicates that he’s steering the ship to a certain degree.
Given the seriousness [...]

Time to fire Sampson … and Greenspan

Flash back to March 29th, 2006. I was a cub reporter at a Louisville TV station covering Indiana’s hiring Kelvin Sampson, and asked Indiana Athletic Director Rick Greenspan why he would hire a coach whose actions at Oklahoma could bring sanctions to IU (remember: Sampson made 577 [!] improper calls to recruits while at Oklahoma). [...]

Katz: Major NCAA violations at IU under Sampson

I’m always hesitant to take anything Andy Katz says at face value, particularly when there’s not a source attached to it (Remember the fiasco prior to IU hiring Sampson? Yeah, exactly). However, if Andy Katz is correct this time, things are about to get pretty goddamn ugly in Hoosierville.
Multiple news outlets reported on Tuesday night [...]
