The Gillette curse: Razors = evil

Remember this annoying Gillette ad with Tiger Woods, Roger Federer and soccer star Thierry Henry.

Started running in late 2007, even spawned a second commercial with Derek Jeter replacing Henry (we assume one shown just in the States).

So what’s happened since the original ad? All of them have suffered some severe career change.

Tiger Woods? Sure he won the US Open, but at what cost? His knee injury ended his 2008 season, including missing two majors and the Ryder Cup.

Roger Federer? He entered 2008 closing in on Pete Sampras’ record for grand slam titles, and is ready to exit with his lowest year in six seasons, losing his number one ranking and so far all three majors. The Raj enters the second week of the US Open as the #2 story to Rafael Nadal.

Henry? His 2007-08 season was one of his worst, netting just 12 goals in 30 games with Barcelona (heck, even Jeter’s season isn’t among his best).

The moral of the story? Gillette may shave Tiger’s face, but it will destroy your life. Steer clear.
