If this is the worst thing the Beijing folks do, the games will be considered a success. Still, it’s pretty damn funny.
Apparently the girl on the left in the picture below sang at the Opening Ceremonies. Sang damn well. So well everyone in China is going gaga and loving her and deeming her the queen of the universe.
Problem? She lip synced - girl on the right actually sang the words.
That girl, 7-year-old Yang Peiyi, won a contest to sing, but at the last minute the Chinese higher ups decided she wasn’t cute enough, that her buck teeth didn’t show the perfect image of China. And so, in it’s grand inferiority complex, they replaced her with a prettier, straight-toothed 9-year-old with pig tails.
Did we mention they told her 15 minutes before the event she was going to sing?
Of course, until now, China had no problem allowing Lin Miaoke, the lip syncer, to do interviews saying she did, in fact, sing at the ceremonies. But in the Beijing world where everything has to be perfect and the world must think Beijing is candyland, it probably makes sense to them.
