Dmitry Tursonov: Jesus mocker, sexual harasser, genuinely … interesting tennis dude

If you haven’t heard of Russian tennis player Dmitry Tursonov, don’t worry: Outside of his no. 34 world ranking, he hasn’t done much, specifically in grand slams.

That said, a couple things caught our eye, including his post-match interview Monday in Cincinnati. The interviewer (one with the ATP Tour) asked Dmitry what pulled him through the victory over former no. 1 Marat Safin. Tursonov smiled, then gave an answer we just love (note: We’d embed link of this video, but the crotchety, 19th-century ATP Tour doesn’t make them available. You can surf here and look for “Tursonov Interview):

“Um … I’m sure Michael Chang would say God pulled me through…”

For those who don’t remember, Chang, much like UAB coach Mike Davis, thanks God for everything from winning a match to the morning corn flakes. And it became nauseatingly annoying in 1990. Then 91. And 92. 93. 94. 95 …

Then we read this blog post on tennistalk.com. According to Dani DeVine, our boy Dmitry was at the Masters Series event in Toronto last week, near the media room, blocking the stairwell just as a well-endowed blond tried to walk up the steps. And Dani goes on:

“The notorious, non-gentleman allegedly asked the dreaded question, ‘How are you going to get past me?’.  The young lady was unmoved by the query, as well as the sleazy smile that went along with it”.

Classy.

In case you’re wondering, Dmitry next plays Wednesday.

Heya, IJS! Thank you for the shout-out. I saw the said Russian’s skanky act, first hand in Toronto. All class.

If I can return a publicity favor for you, please let me know. Killer site you have here, btw. Nice!
