And who said the University of Kentucky was just a basketball school?
Get some big-time arrests and suddenly - presto! Football powerhouse.
For the second time in a week, a UK quarterback ended up behind bars, this time sophomore Will Fidler. Lexington Police say Fidler is charged with disorderly conduct, and WKYT-TV reports it stemmed from a fight outside a town restaurant.
The Wildcats have won the Music City bowl two straight years, only the second time in school history UK has won bowl games in back-to-back seasons.
But Fidler’s not the only one big name: Fellow QB Curtis Pulley, once thought to be the program’s next big thing, was arrested Tuesday for driving on a suspended license with expired plates and registration. Which wouldn’t be so bad (heck, we’ve all fudged the plates a day or two, and the suspended license … well, ok, that part isn’t good) … until Louisville police revealed he was cited earlier this month for pot possession.
Oops.
A spokesperson said coach Rich Brooks says the coach knows of what happened, both players face some discipline, blah blah blah … same old pr spin.
The catch is, because of this, sophomore Mike Hartline, who might have won the job anyways, will almost certainly get the job, partially because Pulley and Fidler will time (Fidler doesn’t seem like a threat to win the job, anyhow).
