Congrats to Nancy Lieberman for having the ability and gumption to leave the broadcast booth and make her return to the WNBA’s Detroit Shock. Apparently deciding the team needed a bit more maturity in the wake of this week’s episode of Foxy Boxing with the Los Angeles Sparks, Coach Bill Laimbeer signed the AARP-member to a seven day contract.
Maybe coach needs to clean his face-shield, but how can this move help anybody? How can this be anything other than a complete lose-lose situation? If she fails, it’s a) sad and b) makes the team that signed her look absolutely ridiculous.
Things are worse if she succeeds. What does it say about your league when a 50 year old ex-coach can step in mid-season and contribute? She’s not a place kicker or a knuckleballer. She’s stepping in to play a physically demanding game with a bunch of ladies 20 years younger. Granted, it’s WNBA basketball, but I think the point stands.
What happens if she gets dunked on?
And yes, for turning in a story about the WNBA I am docking myself 3 ‘man points’.

Wait, isn’t this the same Nancy Lieberman who was asked to leave her position as head coach of the Detroit Shock because she was having an affair with a player?
Maybe that’s what she’s contributing.
Major red flag… apparently Lieberman was a member of the Washington Generals during the 1980s.
Talk about bringing in a losing culture…
Although, in retrospect, we really should have seen the “Former Washington General Joins WNBA” headline a lot sooner.
