What’s the deal with this newest annoying and stupid twist to the annoying and stupid Favre story? The Associated Press reported earlier today that Brett Favre has finally decided to speak for himself…and will be appearing on the show “On The Record with Greta Van Susteren” tonight at 10 PM, ostensibly to tell his side of things.
I couldn’t care less about the contents of this interview, to be honest. If you’re dying to learn more about it, please read the link and get back to me. But to me, there’s a bigger issue here: What on earth is Favre doing giving an interview of this magnitude to Greta Van Susteren, of all people?
I mean, let’s be fair: Of all the worthless and annoying infotainment hosts on the cable networks, Greta is easily the least enjoyable, most vapid, and most undeserving of her own show (narrowly edging out Glenn Beck and Tina Brown, or whatever her name is). She was unfairly forced upon us in the wake of the O.J. Simpson trial, and we’ve had the misfortune of having to watch her botox-riddled face ever since then (Was there a reason that we got stuck with Greta instead of, say, Kristen Jeanette-Myers? We may never know.) If there was a way to make this whole idiotic fiasco more annoying, bringing Greta into the mix probably was it.
So what the heck is Favre doing on this program, at this particular moment in time? The sports media has been slathering themselves with lotion over this story for the last 10 days, yet Brett elects to do his interview on Fox News Channel? (Incidentally, how’s that going to play in leftist cheeseland?)
Granted, there is an explanation offered in the linked article, which is as follows:
Van Susteren — who is from Appleton, Wis., is a Packers shareholder and previously had interviewed Favre and his wife, Deanna — said Favre made it clear he would not return to the Packers if he wasn’t the starter.
So not only did Favre screw over the sport media, but he did so with a news commentator that has a blatant conflict of interest! Beautiful stuff.
I really do wonder how Peter King is dealing with this. Surely Brett had to have offered Peter the interview first, and Peter was gracious enough to let someone else do it…right?
