Ah, nothing like a four-day blog weekend. Apologies to the regular readers who have been looking for some TMC action.
Actually, I was quite shocked to come here today and not see ANY stories on the Wimbledon final. I figured our tennis freaks here would still be using lotion and tissues after that…which, come to think of it, might explain why there aren’t any posts. No one likes a messy keyboard, after all.
Elsewhere (and much to my distaste), the state of Wisconsin has become the fulcrum point for the American sports world these past few weeks. Of course, you have the never-ending Days Of Our Lives-esque melodrama that is Brett Favre and the Packers (now complete with text messaging!), the Brewers trading their future away for C.C. Sabathia, and ESPN’s most recent waste of time, money, and resources, with their search for “Titletown USA” kicking off in Green Bay.
Also, regarding this “Titletown USA” stuff…they did Knoxville, Tennessee last night, and it was very, very odd all around. Bruce Pearl laid it on, Pat Summit looked frightened, and Wendi Nix was hosting…what was the deal with that? I don’t think I’ve seen Wendi do anything but field reporting on the Patriots prior to this. Are they thinking of moving her to an anchor position? I mean, she’s a cute girl and all, but vocally she has a way to go…the couple of times she got excited during the Pearl/Summit interview, her voice started to sound like Rachael Ray. That’s not a positive.
Fortunately, better (and less cheese-filled) days are on the horizon. The All-Star Game festivities are this weekend, the British Open is next week, and the NFL starts training camp the following week. It can’t come soon enough.
