So we told you way back when how Florida and Ohio State were about to become (and became) the first group of NCAA finalists to miss the next year’s tournament since 1980. Now they can do it again: If OSU and UF win their NIT semifinal games, they’ll be the first duo to meet for the NCAA title one year and the NIT title the next.
Hey, wake up - the NIT says you HAVE to care! AND watch!
In fact, from our research, only two teams in NCAA history have made the big dance finals one year and the NIT finals the next. Kentucky did this in 1975 (losing the NCAA finals to UCLA) and 1976 (beating Charlotte for the NIT title), and Dayton in 1967 (losing the NCAA finals to UCLA) and 1968 (beating Kansas for the NIT title).
So, congrats Billy and Thaddeus: You’re about to make more history. Do you care? Who knows? At least if William’s players do their part they may get their gear back …
