Bracketless Day! — Thursday, March 13

No bracket today. Why? BECAUSE NOTHING CHANGED!!!

I was talking with Ink Jet about this earlier tonight, and it became very obvious that almost nothing of note had happened to change the bracket today — at least, nothing to warrant a brand new one. Let’s recap what occurred:

1) Syracuse absolutely and completely folded. Like a card table. Like the French. Like a native of Wisconsin during Brett Favre’s press conference. I sat here and watched that game, and was awestruck at how BADLY Syracuse finished. It was as if they got to the 8 minute mark and just decided to stop playing ball for good. Oh well. They were in my last bracket, albeit as my last team in. I don’t anticipate them being in my next one.

Now, who does that help? Well, if you believe my “Last Four Out”, it helps…Florida. No, no, does not compute at all.

Immediately, the team it helps the most is Villanova, which picked up a huge win over a fellow bubble team. However, most self-respecting bracketologists already had Villanova in their bracket, so the help was somewhat minimal.  I see no way now that Villanova is left out.

Beyond the Wildcats? It helps the other bubble teams from power conferences - Arizona, Arizona State, Florida State, Kentucky, Ohio State, Oregon…and yes, even Florida.  Although Florida really has to win at least a couple of games in the SEC Tourney for people to start taking them seriously again.

More musings after the jump.

2) The Big Sky held to form. Portland State squished Northern Arizona. No change there.

3) The NEC did NOT hold to form, although the differences between Mount St. Mary’s profile and Sacred Heart’s profile are minute at best. You can exchange one for the other and the seeding will not change.

4) The Big East tournament held to form, although West Virginia really looks unimpressive. Marquette does as well. Hell, so does Pitt. If I’m Notre Dame, Louisville, or UConn, I’m not exactly losing sleep tonight.

5)  Tomorrow’s games should hold a bit more interest (we can only hope). Florida State, Arizona State, Florida, Oregon, UNLV, Maryland, Mississippi, and New Mexico are all playing for a spot in the tourney — although none of them are playing each other. Miami, USC, Baylor, Vanderbilt, Washington State, and Texas A&M are all playing for seeding. Of all the games, Arizona State-USC and Washington State-Oregon probably have the most implications.

Look for a new TMC bracket sometime tomorrow night.
