Coach cheats, school pushes cheater out the door, rioting fans try to decapitate school president. That’s how it usually goes, right? Umm …
Well, Indiana University thinks so. Despite no specific threats, IU has increased security for president Michael McRobbie following basketball coach Kelvin Sampson’s resignation. The school cited concerns because of the 2000 firing of Bob Knight, when thousands of students protested outside then-president Myles Brand’s home, setting fires and burning Brand in effigy.
One difference IU: Few wanted Knight’s firing in 2000, and all blamed Brand. The vast majority wanted Sampson gone - maybe even before the season - and one of 20 students could actually pick McRobbie out of a lineup.
No matter.
“Basketball fans are a strange lot. You never know whether people are going to be happy or upset or pushed to some kind of action,” IU police Capt. Jerry Minger told the Indianapolis Star.
Perhaps its just us, but Capt. Minger may be reading too much of TMZ or Perez Hilton. Oh well.

I wonder why Lt. Minger didn’t tell the Indy Star that the reports of threatening emails sent to Peg Brand when Knight was fired were completely untrue?
If I see President McRobbie, I will go up to him, shake his hand, thank him for getting rid of Sampson, and then ask him when he’s going to fire Greenspan. That’s about it. Maybe the security detail could be used to escort Greenspan to the West Parking Lot.
