Three separate rumors now indicate that Sampson’s been unofficially canned, and will be taken out officially sometime on Friday.

I’m still unconvinced.

The presence of Rick Greenspan, the IU athletic director, in yesterday’s press conference and in the press release that IU put out yesterday, indicates that he’s steering the ship to a certain degree.

Given the seriousness of the charges against the athletic department, I have to wonder why the administration hasn’t stepped in and taken over stewardship of the public relations side of this fiasco.

There’s a strong undercurrent of opinion that, given the comments made yesterday in the press conference, IU and Greenspan may be thinking of actively fighting this situation. If that’s the case, than it becomes immediately apparent that the agendas at play in this drama extend no further than each man’s ego.
