Good piece of journalism by The Cincinnati Enquirer writer Dustin Dow, who tracked down one of two Cincinnati-area area recruits mentioned in the NCAA/Kelvin Sampson report. Massillon’s Kenny Frease will attend Xavier last year, but told Dow of his conversations with the NCAA and former IU assistant coach Rob Senderoff (who resigned from IU after the school tried to make him the fall guy):

“When the NCAA guy came out and we talked to him, the biggest thing I remembered was Senderoff would call and he’d hand the phone to Coach Sampson and we’d talk for a few minutes,” Frease said.

Frease said the calls occurred between May 25, 2006 and May 24, 2007, a time when the NCAA banned Sampson from calling recruits. Of course, this is a clear violation of that mandate, and while IU would say they’ve already punished Sampson for this, you have to wonder: How dumb does King Sampson think the NCAA is?

It kind of blows the mind.
