In yet another bizarre decision by a Division I athletic department, Louisiana State announced today that it’s firing head basketball coach John Brady. Immediately.

Okay, no,  not immediately. They’re letting him coach one more game. Why? I have no idea.  Oh, don’t get me wrong, I thought they’d fire him soon. He was a very, very mediocre coach who caught lightning in a bottle in 2006.

But why fire him now? This isn’t football — there’s no chance at resurrecting the team for a post-season berth. I had the same questions a couple weeks ago, when Oregon State canned Jay John.

Regardless, this news is going down very well on the Bayou. As one message board fan noted:

I let my season tickets lapse in protest of Brady remaining as our head coach - I will now gladly renew them in support of this move before they even hire a new HC.

However, the bigger question in all of this is — what’s going to happen to Misty Champagne? (Pictured right) Yes, the blonde on the right is apparently John Brady’s wife — allegedly a former stripper, and a source of puzzlement and interest among certain Internet circles. (The puzzlement being — what causes a blonde 30-ish ex-stripper to shack up with a balding, 50-year old basketball coach? Well, besides the obvious…)

So will Misty have to shine up the pole to support the family? Will we see John Brady resurface with Dave Bliss in the NBDL? Only time will tell.
