If you wanna find the most annoying bunch on the planet, how about looking to the 1972 Miami Dolphins team.
Yes, we get it: You’re thrilled the Patriots lost, leaving you the only unbeaten bunch in modern NFL history to do so. But did you have to be so damn loud about it?
Case in point: former quarterback Bob Griese told ESPN he got an early birthday gift on Sunday. Don Shula’s wife (who watched with the former coach in a stadium suite) said he jumped a few feet in the air when the Giants took the lead. And former running back Mercury Morris told the Associated Press “A tear came to my eye” after Eli Manning hit Plaxico Burress for the winning score, then said to ESPN:
“This game proves any team can beat any other team on any given day … EXCEPT in 1972!”
Um, yeah. Go pop your champagne and enjoy your pampers. Seriously, has any bunch been more self serving than these whinos?
Former tight end Jim Mandich had the gall to tell the Canadian Press the Giants were not just the better team Sunday, but:
“I really feel the better team won”
Listen pal, we were rooting for the Giants too, but, um, did you watch the regular season? You know, the part where the Patriots went 16-0.
And then you have former running back Jim Kiick, who said “We were never against the New England Patriots. We have our own accomplishments”
Yes. Which is why you old men live each season through some scrub team that finally gives the last unbeaten team a loss. Now you can pop your champagne.
Congrats. Yahoos
Isn’t it time to get over this? Don’t you people have more to do with your lives? Larry Csonka is 62. Morris is 61. Shula is 78. And beyond age, most NFL historians still say, despite your umblemished record, the ‘78 Steelers or ‘89 49ers are probably the best team in NFL history.
So go drink your bubbly. Celebrate a victory by kids who can’t remember 1972, much less your cranky butts. And go talk to some other seniors, hopefully a few that understand how to grow old with class.

Great post and right on the money….the 1985 Bears would have tea bagged the 1972 Fish….
Sounds like you’re sore losers…and bitter. I really feel sorry for you.
