Remember Alex Legion? The former University of Kentucky player who transfered in December, months after his mother said she had no clue UK was a powerhouse, but claimed she was a prophet and God steered Legion to Lexington? Well, guess what: God buzzed Alex again, and said he should probably go play with Bruce Weber at Illinois.
A few UK fans don’t seem to be too happy about it. And as they are wont to do, the Lexingtonians have taken it too far. WAY too far.
A ‘Cat fan created the website www.firealexlegion.com. Yes: Fire Alex Legion. You know, the player on scholarship. The one you can’t fire.
And they wonder why the nation makes fun of Kentucky?
Here’s a nugget from the Alex Legion forum (yes, they have one) on the website, one talking about Alex’s transfer to Champaign and Illinois’ fan reaction:
“Well it looks like the jokers at Illinois are now Legion fanatics! They are going crazy over this guy already. Must not have seen the games he sucked in!”
Read on and you’ll see numerous grammar, spelling and punctuation problems (we’d detail them, but there’s only so much space). Anyone else realize UK has much bigger problems this year than one kid that transfered? And what the heck are these people doing with their lives?!?!?
As for his future, Legion told The Louisville Courier-Journal while he thinks Illinois is a good fit, he was never comfortable at UK … and when he left Lexington, some fans weren’t comfortable with the whole program.
“When I left, the majority of the fans were so mad at Coach (Billy) Gillispie, they were kind of like, ‘We wish you would stay, and he would go,’ ” Legion said. “But you know how fans are. I’m sure now that they’re playing better, it’s like, ‘Alex, we didn’t need you anyway.’ “
Of course, the fans at firealexlegion.com would never admit that, not even with the team’s record a meager 9-9.
Legion’s already had a weird career. He’s from Michigan, signed with the Wolverines, backed out, committed to UK, then went through a strange period where he decided to go, then stay, then leave Kentucky. He won’t be able to play at Illinois until next December, and you have to wonder if he’ll be part of the last team Bruce Weber will coach there. If Bruce’s canned, that’d give him at least three coaches in three years.
Maybe then Bruce will ask Alex how it felt to having a firing website named after him.

As a UK fan i wish Alex the best, about 96% of the fans could care less if he transfered or not. I believe Alex wanted to be a star and didn’t want to play team ball . thats why he skips around alot, he is just hurting himself. Yes we are 9-9, but we are improving and will just get better. So if the nation wants to laugh at UK thats fine i can go to YouTube and find plenty of stupid stuff from other schools. Laugh now , but we will be back soon, with Alex or not. When other schools have 7 championships then we might actually give a crap of what they think. One thing you can never take is the pride and passion of UK basketball and i rather have a players that wants to be here . So don’t judge UK by a small amount of UK fans get you worked up over something stupid.
