West Virginia announced on Saturday that they had hired formed dentist turned outlaw Doc Holliday to coach the tight ends and full backs. He will also serve as the recruiting coordinator. New West Virginia head coach Bill Stewart had this to say about Holliday, “He’ll be a tremendous asset to the West Virginia football program.”
LWN agrees that Holliday will be an asset to recruiting and will bring some notoriety to the program. Holliday is famous for his gambling proficiency, icy cold “killer instinct,” and his proclivity for the drink.
Holliday will most likely aggressively recruit in the Dallas, Denver, Cheyene, Tombstone and Deadwood areas. He assumes he will be very well received in the “Arizona Territory,” where he is well-known for his gun fight at the O.K. Corral. Holliday said, “As long as that bastard Earp isn’t on my tail, everything will go smoothly…..All you have to do in recruiting is lay your six-shooter down on the table. This shows the kid and his family you mean business.”
One must wonder what message West Virginia is sending to the NCAA. Will the NCAA turn a blind eye to a notorious criminal? What is the likely-hood that this hire could lead to sanctions for the program? After all, while the NCAA can’t seem to investigate their way out of a brown paper bag, (Reggie Bush scandal) one only has to run a simple search on google to find a litany of red flags against Holliday.
