Morriss interviews for High School Job, denies pee wee team rumors

So Guy Morriss coached the University of Kentucky football team a few years back. Did a pretty damn good job, especially considering the probation-limitations he dealt with thanks to good ol’ Hal Mumme. Then he left for the death trap of Baylor, got fired, and now may be back in Kentucky. At UK?

Well, not quite …

The Louisville Courier-Journal reports Mumme interviewed for the Boyle County High School Football head coaching job.

Yes, High School. His wife confirmed it.

“He was up there,” Jackie Morriss said from Waco, Texas. “When he got off the plane everyone was there to welcome him home. … He would do a great job there.”

To his defense, Boyle County was once a powerhouse, winning five straight state titles from 1999-2003 in its division. But dropping back to high school, even from a school as desperate as Baylor, has to be considered more than a bit disappointing. After all, while he was 18-40 in five years with the Bears, he took a probation-strapped UK team to 7-5 in 2001 (which would’ve been good enough for a bowl game had the NCAA allowed it). And he can take some credit for the recent success the UK football team has enjoyed, winning two straight bowl games.

The best part now? He could take the Boyle County job and see the talent up close. All it would take is a ticket.

You’re so smart, Guy.

UPDATE: Sounds like Guy Morriss to Boyle County High School is a done deal that could be announced today.  Mark Story of The Lexington Herald-Leader says the whole county is going apesh*t about the soon-to-be-new/old-bluegrass Guy.
