So Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez isn’t gonna take it any more: He’s fighting his $4 million buyout. Says the school violated a bunch of things.
Oh Richie, you’re just gonna make things worse.
Fans are pissed in Mountaineerland. How pissed?
His hometown, Grant Town, W. Va. (population less than one thousand) no longer hosts signs saying “Home of WVU Head Coach Rich Rodriguez”. Mayor Robert Riggs wanted them down, saying, while he did this to prevent vandalism, the signs will never go back up (last year, when Rodriguez looked a sure bet to Alabama, someone used their car and a chain to pull one of the signs out. When RichRod stayed, the person left the sign across the street from the town hall with a note saying “Since the coach is staying, here’s your sign back”). Our friends at at the M go blog posted this great picture from Grant Town:
Then you have the Governor Joe Manchin saying Rodriguez is the “victim” of high-priced sports agents. A West Virginia bank has stopped running ads with Rodriguez in them. And a store in Charleston (W. Va.) selling cemetery memorials put the words “Coach Rodriguez” on a headstone in it’s window.
Richie, you can’t win. The Guv says you should pay, the state says you should pay, and public relations folks will say this is a losing battle. Give up the four mil and forget you ever lived in West Virginia. Believe me: It’s the best for all of us.

There are also reports that WVU’s biggest booster, Bob Reynolds, is withdrawing the $12MM in donations he pledged, blaming school officials for Rodriguez’ leaving.
