The firewood is ready, the lawn chairs are set up, and the marshmallows are out of the bag, as we await the release of the George Mitchell report in about 14 hours. Personally, I can’t wait.
Already, the major players are prepping themselves for the bloodbath. ESPN is going live with full televised coverage at 1:00 PM…while simultaneously calling the report a bunch of garbage on ESPN.com. The Orioles just traded Miguel Tejada for a bag of trinkets. CBS Sportsline is promoing Mr. Radomski, and taking shots at Mark McGwire. FanHouse is giving us potential “levels” of players that we’ll hear about.
I’m just generally thrilled at the possibility of some major carnage. The “lawyers with knowledge of the report” that ESPN has had on sound genuinely spooked, talking about all-stars and future HOFers being implicated for drug-taking. My “surprise name” prediction: Roger Clemens…although anyone who’s had contact with people in baseball over the last 10 years would hardly be shocked to hear that name.
In a way, this is like baseball’s version of Selection Sunday…I almost wish that ESPN would announce the names in the report in a bracket format.
