Have you noticed Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ on a Prayer” is becoming the hot, new retro hit? As in, EVERYONE - college bands, classic rock, your drunken college roommate - is playing it? We’re giving credit where it’s due:
The George Mason Patriot band.![]()
I remember being in Dayton in March 2006, and in the waning moments of the Patriots first upset win (this one over Michigan State in the first round) the band started playing the tune. And just as I turned to my brother to say “Are they really playing this?” the whole student section broke out in song.
And a tradition was started. All you Bon Jovi haters can suck it: The song rocks!
Livin’ on a Prayer became the team’s theme, and as the more they won, the more the song played. This is video from one of the first games in 2006-07, but it’s what the Mason fans sounded like up to the Final Four loss to Florida.
