It’s gonna be one of those years

It’s obvious already that the college basketball season is fully prepared to be just as nutty as the college football season. Here’s some quick notes from various games this past Sunday to prove it:

New Orleans 65, #21 North Carolina State 63:  The Wolfpack fall despite playing a New Orleans team that shot 10 percentage points worse (45% to 35%). Nice to see a Sun Belt team pick up a win against the ACC.

Miami (FL) 64, Providence 58: A middle-of-the-pack Big East team gets run in the championship of the Puerto Rico Tip-Off, by a Miami team predicted to finish anywhere between 8th and 12th in the ACC. Good on you, Frank Haith…the Canes are now 4-0, meaning they’re only one win away from tying the football team’s number of wins. Ouch.

Baylor 68, Notre Dame 64: At least Luke Harangody showed up for the Irish. Other than that…meh. Nice win for a Baylor team that needed some confidence heading into December.

Winthrop 79, Georgia Tech 73: You know it’s a bad day for the ACC when Miami has the most impressive win. Georgia Tech drops their second game of four, and Winthrop (under a new coaching regime) advances to the Paradise Jam final to take on Baylor.

South Florida 68, Florida State 67: As I was saying about the ACC…damn. Weren’t people picking Florida State as a possible NCAA at-large team this year? Good to see Stan Heath getting things together in Tampa somewhat.
