This one broke my heart as a 10-year old. Interestingly enough, this game gave Illinois a #1 seed overall, despite finishing behind Indiana in the Big Ten conference standings.
One more for the day — and it apparently can’t be embedded (way to go, CBS!). Here’s a clip from the LSU-Georgetown tournament game in the 1988 NCAA Tournament, including a hilarious phone poll where they ask viewers if they want to see more women’s basketball on TV.

My lord: I have to pay 60 cents to tell you I don’t want to see women’s hoops?!?!
That’s ESPN for you - gouging the customer, even in 1998.
How about that studio setup? I miss those days when there were only so many commercials sold, and if the game had too many breaks, they just threw it to unprepared studio guys.
