Monday Morning Hangover

Temple

Desperately looking for stuff to read that is NOT about the Red Sox winning the World Series last night? You’ve come to the right place.

— It was quite a weekend for Oregon football. They beat USC. They gained the #4 ranking in the polls. And Mike Belotti’s wife Colleen (and the family nanny) unleashes a profanity-laced tirade against a sports columnist in the Oregon press box! That’s the way to build a program, Mike! I guess Mom Belotti is still upset about this column by John Canzano of the Oregonian, which uncovered that the Belotti’s son, a kicker on the Ducks football team, had been arrested twice for DUI, but hadn’t been suspended publicly.

—  Props to One More Dying Quail, who scored a lengthy sit-down with Erin Andrews of ESPN. Good read, I recommend checking it out. Seriously.

—  Some post Saturday college football reaction at Epic Carnival, Signal to Noise, and The Big Lead (although the last link is more the “Division III ridiculous lateral” category).

—  Courtesy of Deadspin, we learn that the San Diego fires have been particularly hard on the wildlife. And on pool repairmen.

— Normally, I’m all for criticizing the NFL when it’s necessary, but the LA Times’ Helene Elliott really has zero case whatsoever in this column. It’s easy to attack the NFL for any old thing, but she accuses them of FORCING the city of San Diego to play the game yesterday. Oh, and she throws in a “Too Soon!” just for good measure. She wins the award for “worst column of the week”, which has to irritate her colleague Bill Plaschke no end.

—  Sally Jenkins of the Washington Post hates bad sportsmanship. Er, unless that dreamboat Tom Brady is quarterbacking. Way to go, Sally! Stick up for the little guy! (Note: If Bill Parcells or Bob Knight was coaching the Patriots, do you think Sally would prattle on about their classless bullying? I do, I do!)
