The Meaningful Collateral

The part of the knee that, you know, means something.

It was just 35 calls! Er…we mean, it was only 100 calls!

More news from the incredibly sad and entertaining mess in Bloomington. According to the Indianapolis Star, the report that Indiana University sent to the NCAA in regards to excessive phone calls to recruits by Kelvin Sampson’s staff at IU actually included 100 calls of uncertain origin, not the 35 that were reported in the press conference on Sunday.

From the article:

“We’re calling attention in this report to a little over a hundred calls, 35 of which we are labeling as possible NCAA violations,” MacIntyre said. “The rest we are saying may have been contrary to the sanctions (imposed on Sampson while at the University of Oklahoma), but in a lot of cases it’s not really clear what they were.”

Meanwhile, Bob Kravitz actually pays a compliment, albeit a backhanded one, to IU fans. I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or a bad thing.

And finally, Gerry DiNardo, former IU football “coach”, chimes in with some integrity talk in the Herald-Times. No link (subscription only…and not worth the subscription, trust me), but an interesting quote as DiNardo talks about his time on the sidelines in Bloomington:

I was never asked the loyalty/integrity question directly, but the football program was investigated while I was the head coach. I was told during and after the investigation that if it was found that any minor violation was repeatedly made that the university and NCAA would consider that a major violation because it would show disregard for the rules.

They of course forgot to tell Dinardo that if any minor violations were found, they’d be treated as major violations because everybody here hates you.
