Davydenko’s cranky, insinuates Murray may gamble

davydenko.jpgOk, before this tennis betting scandal, Joe Generic sports fan had never heard of 4th-ranked tennis player Nikolay Davydenko (Russia). And most still don’t, but the ones that do, well, they know lil’ baldy for his link to the story.

And it’s starting to wear on Nikky.andy-murray1.jpg

A few weeks after Scottish star Andy Murray claimed “(Match-fixing) is pretty disappointing, but everyone knows it goes on“, Davydenko shot back, telling tennis.com:

“I don’t know how Murray got information. Maybe he plays, that’s [why] he knows, I don’t know. For me it’s surprising.”

Riiiiiiiiiiiiight.

The story started a few months ago in Poland when Betfair, an online booking agency, took 4th-ranked Russian Nikolay Davydenko’s match with the immortal Martin Vassallo Arguello off it’s boards, claiming an unusual amount of money bet against Davydenko. The Russian defaulted in the third set. Both players denied wrongdoing.

Davydenko later told tennis.com Murray was doing this for publicity. “[He's] trying to be more famous by using the tour. Because if he tells something, then he knows. From him, it’s stupid to tell something like this. Normally, nobody knows. You should ask him”.

No word yet on Murray’s response. Davydenko made these comments as he pulled out of the Madrid Masters. He then said he’d put all his chips on the Rockies.

We kid. I think.
