Ok, remember when we said Tony LaRussa may be the next manager of the Reds? Forget it: We were just kidding. Apparently Tony the Tiger is in love with the idea of getting sauteed by the New York media.
According to The Cincinnati Enquirer, the Reds could be close to naming a new manager, and the paper cites sources pointing to former Cubs and Giants manager Dusty Baker. Reds General Manager Wayne Krivsky gave a new twist on “no comment”, telling The Enquirer “We nothing to announce at this time”. Basically, the team has no news, which if you watched most of the painful 2007 season, you’d know isn’t something, well, new.
The Reds could kill two birds with one stone by hiring Baker: Grab a quality manager who’s won before, and relieve pained ESPN fans from listening to Baker’s mumble marathon and awful broadcasting.
The paper also says FOX analyst (and competent broadcaster) Bob Brenly as a potential candidate. Brenly won the World Series with Arizona in 2001. Krivsky told the paper on Wednesday he hadn’t yet talked to interim manager Pete Mackanin … apparently Krivsky felt ok with announcing that.
