The History of Sports Blogs, Part I

There have been a fair number of words, thoughts, and sweat poured into Sports Blog America (and beyond) since its inception back in the late 90’s. While this site is a latecomer to the current scene, there have been some precursor blogs to this one that I’ve been involved in — the old NetWire blog (which is being housed on this site, way back in the 2006 archives), and before that a couple of random posts on a blog service associated with the old SportsPages.com (now USSportspages.com) site, back in 2004.

Despite the apparent nascence of the genre, it is well worth taking a look back at what’s transpired to bring us to our current situation. If you find the historical elements of the sports blogging world interesting, please do yourself a favor and check out the well-written histories of sports blogging that Stop Mike Lupica and MC Bias have started to put together on their sites. There should be more versions of this appearing in the coming weeks, so we’ll keep you informed when they hit the sites.
