Ok SEC bunch: We get it. Yes, your league is by far the best in the nation. Yes, LSU is the best team in the land.
But enough is freaking enough.
In this week’s issue of Sports Illustrated, politico James Carville was
asked whether it was good “upstarts like South Florida” are in the nation’s top 10.
“Sure,” Carville said. “But let’s see. Mississippi State, perhaps the worst team in the SEC, beat Auburn at home. South Florida, the best team in the Big East, beat Auburn at home. So the best team in the Big East is just as good as the worst team in the SEC. I’m impressed”
Jimbo, you do realize Auburn won AT Florida. You know, the national champs. Are you then admitting South Florida is the best team in Florida? The Gators nearly won at LSU. Are you saying, because USF did something UF couldn’t, they would’ve been able to win at LSU?
Of course these arguments are silly. But no sillier than this “We’re the best conference in the world, and high school teams could compete with the Big East” claim.

Gosh, who knew James Carville was such a fan of the transitive property?
Let’s play the same game, from 2006:
