News and notes from some of our favorite blogs:
- The Big Lead has a wonderful reminiscence about Barry Bonds’ long-forgotten guest-star appearance on Beverly Hills 90210.
- Awful Announcing reviews the first MNF broadcast of the season, noting “I don’t know what it is about MNF that makes Tony Kornheiser so unbelievably unfunny, but he’s terrible.”
- I Dislike Your Favorite Team uncovers some startling (and rather disturbing) imagery of new Giants starter Jared Lorenzen.
- They’re so desperate in Ann Arbor that MGoBlog is already placing halos on PAC-10 coaches.
- Robert Weintraub of Slate comes up with an ingenious nomenclature for ridiculous football punditry over at Deadspin. Go read about the SSW.
Randosity
You’re stepping all over me, Jaws!!! - I’m not sure if anyone else noticed this last night, but the broadcast crew for the first MNF game had a heck of a time remembering their roles. On at least three separate occasions in the 4th quarter, Ron Jaworksi blew right through his commentary and started excitedly shouting out the play-by-play, cutting Mike Tirico out of the picture in the process. It sounded like Tirico was none too happy about this, going so far as to cut Jaws off on a couple of occasions as the game waned.
Portland, Cincinnati, and Indianapolis to become sister cities - Yet another Pacer has been arrested. This time it’s forward Shawne Williams, who got dinged last night with marijuana possession and driving without a license. The brilliance of GM Larry Bird continues to shine through.
You don’t say, Jay? - In a shocking expose, Jay Mariotti reveals that professional football is a dangerous and physically damaging sport. What would we do without champions of truth like Mariotti to help shine the light for us?
What does Karl Benson have against Polynesian culture? - Hawaii players and coaches are upset that the WAC is taking their haka away.
He’s a big meaniehead, too! - MSNBC’s Bob Cook uncorks on Bill Belichick. “As his team gets further removed from its Super Bowl run, Belichick’s career as a Hall of Fame coach is quickly being overtaken by his career as a Hall of Fame jackass.”
That’s all for now. Stay classy, Rochester.
